VII Annual Conference "Strategic infrastructure Bulgaria 2012"
Road infrastructure building in Bulgaria is not a goal in itself but it became a major target #1 as highway and express roads were not sufficient or in bad shape and did not connect people and freight as per their basic purpose. Last year and a half started an active construction and rehabilitation of roads. It will continue but the attention will focus on maintenance as well as safety facilities and marking with intelligent transportation systems for timely information of the users.
The focus will gradually shift from roads to other transport infrastructure:
• railways currently being slowly reformed
• airports whose ground activities are in the light of the European Commission now
• the ports for which the European Commission prepares a package of measures in 2013
• sea highways and inner waterways - among Europe's favourites.
The construction of ecologic infrastructure like the waste-water treatment plants, the sewerage, the landfills and waste processing plants going to its climax.
The big cities are gradually becoming a haven for more and more people where its inhabitants are looking for a job, safety, spirituality, beauty, zones for sport and rest and fast and comfortable transfer from one point to another. The connections between the zones within the town, between the big city and the small village that will soon have sewerage and Internet access, is becoming a necessity for the active person.
