Richard Colwell has worked for BRE for the last 27 years. He has worked in a number of areas include research into the fire performance of building products and upholstered furniture.
Ten years ago he started undertaking research into cable fires in hidden voids for the SPI. He then set–up and managed BRE’s cable flammability laboratory, now Europe’s largest independent cable flammability test facility with a worldwide customer base.
Following this he ran the building envelope team at BRE Global, undertaking testing and approval of sandwich panels and building envelope systems.
For the last three years he has been part of the international business development team at BRE Global, looking after the Central and Eastern Europe region. He has worked closely with the BRE Global Sustainability team to raise awareness of awareness of BREEAM amongst investors, developers and building owners in the region. He has, and continues to work, with a number of GBC’s in the region who have now adopted BREEAM as there preferred assessment system.
