Infrastructure projects for EUR 4bn are under preparation
Bulgaria is preparing road projects for EUR 4bn. If we have a look at the map we can easily see - this is a country in isolation with its neighbours. There is only one bridge of over 400 km of Danube river, no convenient road access by corridors 8 and 10. This was said by the minister of regional development Rosen Plevneliev at the national conference on strategic infrastructure management.
The existing 418 km of highways make only 2% of the total road network in this country. The state of the roads is constantly deteriorating since the 80s of last century.
For the last nine years for roads have been spent between BGN 70m and BGN 170m per year for new roads and rehabilitation which is extremely low amount of funds. As a result now only 35% of all roads are in good condition.
The roads connect cities. Besides the megapolis Sofia we set up nine main axes for growth - Blagoevgrad, Plovdiv, Stara Zagora, Burgas, Varna, Ruse, Veliko Tarnovo, Pleven, Ruse. There are also ten secondary development axes - Kyusendil, Smolyan, Haskovo, Kardzhali, Sliven, Shumen, Dobrich, Silistra, Gabrovo, Vratsa.
